Who Are We?

Each year since its foundation in 2002, Eastern Edge Robotics has designed and constructed Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) to meet specifications set by the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Centre to model real-world ocean-workplace scenarios. Eastern Edge's members are post-secondary students from various backgrounds including ROV technology, several engineering disciplines, computer science, graphic arts and ocean instrumentation

Where Are We?

Located on the east coast of Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador is the 10th province of Canada. Eastern Edge is based in St. John's, the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador, at the Marine Institute. Home to one of the largest flume tanks in the world, the Marine Institute is a leader in the development of ocean and underwater technologies.

What We Do

Eastern Edge Robotics designs and manufactures state-of-the-art ROVs in-house. A majority of our mechanical and electrical systems are built from the ground up with raw materials and base components. We always strive to push boundaries on what we create, improving constantly from each year to the next. Besides our technology and engineering focus, Eastern Edge also volunteers at various local events to improve STEM and marine science and technology education.

2020 - Excite, Educate, Empower: Students engineering solutions to global problems

Villanova, Pennsylvania

The theme for the 2020 MATE International ROV Competition is Excite, Educate, Empower: Students engineering solutions to global problems. With this theme, Eastern Edge will have to complete simulated tasks such as removing plastic debris, determining the health of a coral colony, and creating an artificial reef. To complete these tasks, Eastern Edge has already completed a full preliminary ROV design for the 2020 Competition, which already holds promise to be our best ROV system to date. Stay tuned!
